Psych Profile:
Cordelia is tall at 5’10” and usually adds to the height with heavy boots that she wears on duty. She’s much more comfortable in combat trousers and sleeveless shirts than dresses but has been known to dress up, on occasion. Her dark hair is long but usually worn in a tight plait or coiled bun on duty.
Virtuous is not a word used to describe Cordelia and could never, by any stretch, be considered. She does not do anything in moderation and goes out of her way half the time to let her hair down and go wild, off duty of course. Cordelia also makes a point of never having serious relationships; she sees no need when she has no interest in settling down any time soon.
Despite this, she is intensely loyal to those she feels deserve it and would do anything to protect a friend or loved one. Perhaps not with the wisest course of action but the sentiment is generally what counts.
Cordelia had a somewhat strange start in life. She and her father have no idea who her mother was, only that the woman had left Cordelia in a box outside the base where her father’s ship flew from with a note saying ‘dear Del, this is yours.’ Del Callait decided that whoever she had been was obviously not worth finding and had taken the child to raise without question.
Being raised on ships occupied solely by adults left Cordelia with a much more mature outlook on life than the average child and so she was quickly integrated as one of the crew on board the Marlborough. When she was sixteen she helped her father in his job as Master at Arms and often helped to finish his paperwork and ensure rules were being followed. By the time she was eighteen she was as feared and respected amongst the crew as her father was and there was no question of what Cordelia would go on to do; she would be a Master at Arms, just like Del.
Six months after she reached this conclusion her father came into some money by way of an inadvertent collection of a bounty on the head of a criminal he had caught by accident. The money was used to buy his own ship, the SS Crawley and he gave the teenage Cordelia the role of Master at Arms. It proved something of a mistake. Cordelia knew the job inside out but her age and relatively playful nature proved her downfall, leaving her open to attack from the crew. It was only due to the fact that her father was the Captain that she was not fired from the post. After almost a year of constant battle between Cordelia and the crew things came to a head when she caught a crew member stealing from the cargo bay. During her attempt to stop him she was attacked by his friends amongst the crew, saved only by the intervention of a young man who was her occasional lover. Her injuries were severe and took quite some time to recover from meaning she spent weeks in an out of the infirmary and having to do painful rehab exercises. By the time she was fully healed Cordelia and Del had come to the conclusion that, though Cordelia was good at her job, she needed to have the experience of being on a crew away from the influence of her father.
From that moment on she has served on two ships as Assistant to the Master at Arms and gained a reputation as tough on the crew, loyal to the Captain and rather wild in the bars when the ships are docked.
On the surface Cordelia appears to be happy and carefree but it is a carefully constructed cover to hide the problems she has underneath. Her biggest fear is to be proved physically helpless and unable to take action against something; either to protect herself or protect a loved one and the idea of physical injury terrifies her. Cordelia has been known to push herself past her limits to prove her physical worth and will avoid any medical staff like the plague.
