Psych Profile:
Lean, lithe and tall, Rayne is the ‘recruiting poster Marine’. His face is calm and relaxed, with eyes that record everything around them. Multiple scars cover his body, a testament to the genetic issue that slows the artificial healing process. His hair is almost always short, and he often sports just enough facial growth to not quite be a beard, but not merely a day’s growth. He is missing the little finger on his left hand.
The word that most often comes to mind when describing Rayne is calm. Very little seems to disturb the man; most encounters are taken with a half smile. It takes quite a bit to remove the twinkle in his eyes – but when it leaves, all hell will break loose. He is extremely loyal, but very private to all but those who are closest to him. Rayne carries with him a great sense of right and wrong, which can war with the systems in place around him. Often curious to a fault, it is only his disciplined nature that holds his impulses in reserve. It is not uncommon to find him active; tinkering, reading, exercising, or nose-first in any number of hobbies that he seems to rotate through.
Rayne was born just outside the Anchorage Metroplex. His mother, an environmental engineer and his father, an energy matter specialist, maintained much of the metroplex’s power and environmental equipment for the area. He grew up happily home-schooled, learning engineering and mechanical work as well as a great love of literature and the land. He continued in these footsteps until a tragic accident caused a high-energy station to implode, killing both of them.
Rayne, near the age of majority, was destroyed. He’d lost all attachment to his past. In an act of desperation, he joined Starfleet, eager to leave Alaska and find someplace he belonged. Entering the Marine Branch, he easily fell into Combat Engineering given his background.
Finally finding a place he belonged and fit in, he quickly graduated top of his class and moved into the Starfleet Embassy Detail, responsible for maintaining the quiet and imperceptible defences of the Federation. He was stationed at numerous planets, including Ferenginar, Betazed and Qo’nos. After three tours, he graduated Squadron Officer School and was assigned to the USS T’Khal as an Assistant Company Commander. He served commendably during this time, continuing to perform and enjoy his status as a Marine.
It was on the T’Khal that he met his wife Iliena Chra, a Betazoid Engineering Officer. They were married on the T’Khal, and enjoyed a year aboard before being separated on assignments. Rayne went on to command the Alpha Company aboard the USS Comanche, while Iliena went on as Assistant Engineer on the USS Bellerophon. Another year passed, and the Bellerophon was lost during the Battle of Wolf 359. Again, Rayne lost all ties to any family he had. Enraged, he sought transfer to combat the Borg, but was denied. Insane with grief and anger, he attacked is commanding officer, and was restrained and medically confined. After treatment, he accepted a discharge from Starfleet Marine Corps, and was contacted shortly after by the Federation Border Patrol based upon his previous experience. He accepted the role as a Captain of a Border Patrol ship, and through the actions of a ‘benefactor’, secured the bond to purchase and refurbish a moth-balled Soyuz-class starship, christened the FBP Spartan.
(Starfleet Medical) Major Sackett’s primary interest is in the safety and security of those he cares about. He has an extraordinary sense of loyalty and responsibility in his makeup, and seems fulfilled in the degree he can shield others from danger. What appears to be shyness is actually a reserved, observant nature, which can often be interpreted as stiffness or even coldness. This is actually an expression of his sincerity and seriousness of purpose. Thoroughness and frugality tend to be a virtue for Major Sackett. Contrasting this are the deep-seated pains and fears of loss, which often war against his primary personality characteristics. While seeking to protect as many as he can, he will only let very few individuals close enough to see beyond the small smile and professional composure. Because of this, he can be found to be two very different people – one for the public, and another that only appears in true privacy.
