My Metaphor:
Globetrotting
World Traveling!
I love to travel and I love learning, especially about technology so there was really only one possible metaphor for my MET journey – Globetrotting: World Traveling! “I have visited many different places around the world, including planning and traveling with groups of high school students to Europe. Additionally, the experiential-path for both is quite similar! Traveling is full of new learning experiences while meeting, interacting and learning from new people along the way and this correlates well with my MET experiences over the past two years. This metaphor allows me to weave two of my passions together: Traveling and Educational Technology!” (Tutkaluk, 2011)
I have been introduced to a variety of different learning theories and teaching strategies along my journey in the MET program just as I have been introduced to many different cultures around the world. Bringing back and sharing my traveling experiences with my family and friends is very important to solidifying those memories. Similarly putting theory into practice, using the new knowledge and skills that I have acquired through the MET program in my classroom is not only rewarding but supports and confirms the relevance of my learning!
“E-portfolios illustrate the evolution of one’s learning journey by telling a story. Messages and stories told through e-portfolios describe our beliefs about society, culture, messages, communications, values, and how to make sense of our everyday experience. Fiske (1990) describes symbols and metaphors as literary devices that we use to make sense of our everyday experience. Learning is an active process whereby we are engaged in authentic experiences and we construct our knowledge about the world through interactions with others and culture, so we can make meaningful connections to our society and culture and become socially aware, responsible and productive members of society” (ETutkaluk, 2011).
