Names
An Illustrated History of the Embroidered Silk Postcards is the standard reference book on embroidered silk postcards. It contains references to over 2600 different cards with over 270 illustrations. The section on Names lists cards showing 38 Female Names and 13 Male Names. The cards listed below are additional cards discovered since the book was published. The new additions are shown in RED.
There is an extensive range of Christian names found on embroidered silk postcards. Most of them are English or French, with some Spanish names. Most of these cards date mainly from the 1920s and 1930s. The designs of the cards are mainly the name with simple floral additions, often with the initial letter embellished with small flowers. Some cards have an additional brief greeting. The majority of the cards are in the horizontal format.
A few cards are known with the embroidered surnames of famous people from the First World War, and a single card for Adolf Hitler from the 1930s. These cards are very rare.
