Costa Rica 2006

Costa Rica - January 2006

This January we went to Costa Rica and sailed on Windstar. The ship was wonderful. It carries about 140 passengers and travels under sail most of the time. It also has diesel power. It can make almost 15 knots under sail and about 11 knots under power. Our trip was about 30% under sail exclusively. The crew was very friendly and most accomodating. We made trips off the boat each day. You can see a few representative pictures below.

We arrived on January 6 and spent the night in a beautiful resort just outside the capital, San Jose. We then drove to Puerto Caldera and sailed for a day.

On January 9 we landed in San Juan del Sur and spent the day in Nicaragua, seeing a city and an active volcano. The country is very poor.

On January 10 we returned to Playas del Coco, Costa Rica. In the morning the girls swung through the canopy and in the afternoon we did some touring.

On the eleventh, we went to Quepos and toured the wonderful Manuel Antonio National Park.

On January 12 we discovered that there is a Drake Bay in Costa Rica, just as there is one in Galapagos.

On the thirteenth we stopped at the Curu Reserve and at Tortuga Island (where Lisa managed to get a sunburn).

Finally, on the fourteenth we returned to Puerto Caldera and the returned home.
