Photography & Art

Capturing life one pic at a time...

I am a photographer, author, muralist, and digital storyteller as well as a lifetime college educator.

I tell stories in both writing and through images.  I seek out the unexpected. I am aways looking to hone my artistic craft, continuing to grow, embracing change, and relishing the joy of serendipity that helps me capture the unpredictable.

My interest and engagement in the arts is multidisciplinary and heavily influenced by storytelling, nature, symmetry, and bold colors.  Much of my photographic focus is capturing images of people, animals, insects, and things that people often ignore.  I enjoy using macro and bokeh techniques to bring specific details into focus as well as blur out other parts of the image.  I am passionate about engaging with shapes, light, and shadow in my photos.  I get up close, aiming to create depth and reveal often overlooked details through my photographic narratives.

Murals & Other Art

Mural work is a new passion of mine based on the collaborate community art work I engaged in during Fall 2023.

For the two community murals, I was privileged to supervise and work with several high school student artists and the larger East Greenbush community. It’s whimsical and colorful creation was designed by Columbia High School students Clover Rodgers '25 and Lyla Maguffin '27 under the guidance of Empire State University faculty member, Dr. Lisa D'Adamo-Weinstein.  These three were joined by Aries Raphael '24, as the main artists of the mural.

The "Community Mural," transcends its role as mere decoration. It intricately weaves together New York State symbols with the colorful handprints of over 80 community members, creating a living tapestry of shared expression. Rooted in nature and community, this mural serves as a collaborative canvas, where individuals of all ages united to leave their mark in the form of flowers and butterflies.

Over three wet and cold weekends in late October and early November, this mural materialized into more than just a visual element; it became a conduit for connection and community strength. As residents of all ages picked up brushes and contributed their artistic flair, a sense of camaraderie flourished, turning the park into a shared canvas of creativity. Community members, drawn to the evolving artwork, shared heartfelt expressions of gratitude for the initiative. The mural has not only transformed the physical landscape of the park but have also infused it with an undeniable sense of togetherness and pride. The success of this project underscores the belief that art has a unique ability to strengthen community bonds, offering a common ground where diverse voices harmonize in a celebration of shared identity.

The commUNITY spirit mural was a bonus to this project. The second mural, aptly named the "commUNITY spirit mural," embodies the essence of unity through art. Designed by the Deputy Director of Public Works, Meaghan Hart, and crafted by local high school students, Clover Rodgers '25  and Lyla Maguffin '27; Empire State University faculty member, Lisa D'Adamo-Weinstein; and Town of East Greenbush employees,  Meaghan Hart, Lisa O'Brien, and Donna Millet, this mural showcases the rich identity of East Greenbush. School logos, the town emblem, and elements of local arts and music programs converge to form a vibrant collage, encased within the graceful wings of a butterfly. The very creation of the mural exemplifies the strength that emerges when a community unites in artistic expression.
