AWARDS, FELLOWSHIPS, GRANTS and SCHOLARSHIPS
Capital Region Arts Center
Grant Recipient, NYS Council on the Arts Statewide Community Regrants for Project - Arts in the Parks: An East Greenbush Community Arts Experience, $5,000 funding for June -December 2023
East Greenbush is a suburb of Albany in Rensselaer County with a population over 16,000. Through concerted efforts by the town, the focus on improving the parks and recreation offerings has resulted in vastly improved facilities as well as expanded arts and wellness events in our community parks. The purpose of this project is to build upon these efforts by offering a series of community arts and education events to be held the summer and fall in several of the town’s parks. The series will include free arts classes; the creation of a community mural; and hosting a communitywide art show.
SUNY Empire State College
Grant Recipient, SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grant (IITG) - Principal Investigator for Early Identification Systems, Tools, and Professional Development for Prior Learning Assessment, $27,948 funding for fiscal year 2023-2024
SUNY Empire has a long and robust commitment to the idea that students should be awarded credit for verifiable college-level learning regardless of where or how it was acquired. While the utilization of PLA within a student’s degree portfolio is a hallmark of SUNY Empire, we are constantly seeking ways to better support our students. Students do not always avail themselves of PLA opportunities. Acknowledging that PLA is a complex concept, our project focuses on mitigating the problems of perceptions of difficulty, lack of awareness, timing, lack of individualized guidance, and/or insufficient or appropriate advisement. To address these issues, this grant will include developing: (a) relatable student personas to illustrate the potential for using PLA in degree planning and (b) a preliminary prior learning intake form. We have also identified the need for professional development for faculty and staff.
A total of 57 proposals were submitted with 23 selected for funding. Each proposal received five independent peer reviews, coupled with a secondary review by the IIRC and a final review by members of the Office of the Provost staff.
The James William and Mary Elizabeth Hall Award for Innovation, April 2021
