Workshop Safety Rules for the Design Technology Department.
Never enter the Technology room without a teacher being present.
Never use or turn on a machine or any piece of equipment without the Teacher being present.
Always wear an apron when doing practical work.
Shoelaces must be properly tied before entering a Technology room.
When using machine tools :- Always tie back long hair, remove all hazardous jewelry and tuck in all loose clothing.
Always wear goggles when using machine tools, when directed by safety signs or the teacher.** It is best to wear goggles at all times in the workshop.**
When using machine tools only one student is permitted to stand inside the black and yellow lines on the floor. The teacher may stand with you to give help or instructions.
Never distract anyone when they are using tools or machinery.
Never run in a Technology room.
Always store bags so that they are not a danger to others. Leave them outside the workshop and store them away, never on the floor where someone could trip over them, as guided by the teacher.
When carrying sharp or pointed tools carry them down by your side and return them safely to the cupboard when you have finished with them.
Report all hazards, broken tools, loose or cut electrical cables and any accidents to the teacher immediately.
At the end of the lesson it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that the room is properly cleared and tidied safely ready for the next class.
