What does it mean to give a listening lesson on Teaching Practice?
To give a listening lesson means that the students listen to your voice or a recording in a structured activity where they have to react in some way based on what they hear. Remember, that a listening activity is structured and has a goal to it.
e.g. --
listening for colors
sizes
shapes
numbers
jobs
actions helpers take...
The list goes on. The listening activity is directly related to the goals of the lesson.
For example, imagine that you are doing a lesson on Community Helpers.
This means that your listening activity should have to do with community helpers.
Here is a very simple example:
Play this recording and match the items based on what you hear.
1. This man is a___________________________. Doctor
2. This women is a _________________________. Ambulance driver
3. This man is an___________________________. Teacher
This is a simple activity, but it does do something important -- It requires the students to listen and react to what they hear. Remember, make the sheet or activity in such a way that the students must listen correctly to get the answer correct.
The difficulty of the listening depends on the students levels, but the above example should help you think of other ways. Remember, the idea is that they listen and react in some way to show they comprehend.
