Great Learners:
-Want to learn for their own benefits, not for grades or some other extrinsic reward.
-Take full responsibility for their learning: This means that students see themselves as responsible for their learning. The teacher is there to help and guide. However, the learner is in charge.
-Embrace mistakes as learning opportunities.
-Think actively. We learn through class activities only when the mind is switched on and actively engaged. We must seek understanding; understanding will not come to us without effort.
-Engage in a process, not a product: Learning takes time and sometimes we get confused but don't give up because we know that through hard work we will succeed.
-Enjoy new challenges because challenges create learning opportunities - If we engage ONLY in activities that are easy, we NEVER learn. Learning requires effort in the face of new challenges.
-Understand that making mistakes is part of learning: We can not learn without making mistakes. Making mistakes does NOT mean that you are not as smart as the others.
-Seek feedback frequently: Feedback is how we learn; we learn by doing and receiving feedback on our performance.
-Engage in class everyday: When an effective learner comes to class they come ready to take part in activities with the purpose for learning.
-Take notes and review notes: Taking notes, making sketches and drawings can be very effective ways to record your own understanding and thinking. Learning is a story and we need to record it.
-Use learning strategies to help: There are many effective learning strategies that make a big difference to learners.
-Ask questions when confused and seek help when necessary: Effective learners actively seek understanding by asking questions.
I wish you great learning & great teaching
