The Observable Language Behaviour continua is a series of documents that provide a way to assess a student's initial English speaking, listening, and writing abilities. It is broken down by division and these three skills. Each skill has 6 Steps that a teacher can use to determine appropriate scaffolding and support for an ELL student in their class. I choose these documents because I am new to initial assessment for ELL students and I feel like this is a useful document to be able to access. I also think it is important that subject teachers can compare what they are seeing in class to where the ELL teachers have placed the student on the Step continua. It is important for all teachers working with ELLs to know what these levels mean and how that will impact the student's understanding in their class. It's important for teachers to be able to plan lessons that will be accessible for their ELL students and this document can help a teacher understand what each Step means.
