The Ontario Curriculum Guide, specifically the chapter "Assessment and Evaluation of Student Achievement," explains the considerations teacher should make when creating assessments for ELLs. The chapter explains the importance of understanding what the purpose assessment serves: understanding student's progress. I chose this document because it provides the key components your assessments should have when assessing ELLs. Making sure assessments accurately reflect a student's understanding is essential, and without knowing the appropriate adjustments, teachers won't be assessing accurately. This is important for any teacher working with ELLs as it is essential for their continued development that they aren't discouraged. If their assessments aren't appropriate and they're consistently receiving low results, they may be discouraged when it comes to their English acquisition. As a teacher, it is important to know methods will give an accurate picture of their learning.
