I have chosen the STEP Initial Assessment User Guide as a key artifact for Module 2. This guide clearly explains the steps an educator can take when assessing an ELL student, how to determine their English levels, and what supports are recommended. It also has examples of assessment and activities that can be used when determining a new student's levels. I chose this document because it is an essential document for any teacher working with ELLs. Even if a student has already been assessed, it is useful for teachers to understand what the levels are and what they mean. This can help with lesson planning, as well as determining if a student is making progress in your class. This is important for any teacher who teaches ELLs. Having a clear idea of where they are in their learning can allow a teacher to build lessons that are appropriate for their levels. This will also help if there is ELL coordinator at a school. Being on the same page and being able to use the correct terminology when referring to levels can ensure a student's progress is being communicated clearly. Knowing what an ELL teacher or assessor looks for when assessing a new student can keep consistency in an ELLs academic career.
