How to do the VOA News Clip Collection assignments...

In this study program...

we use two websites: EnglishCentral.com and the DavesLL website
your grades are based on PARTICIPATION, COURSEWORK, HOMEWORK and TESTS assignments

This is the course page for VOA News Clip Collection on the DavesLL website.
To help you work more smoothly, quickly and to improve your grades, it is important to understand the preparation, structure and instructions for these assignments.

PREPARATION
Before you do the assignments, I strongly recommend you read How to succeed or check out the tutorial.
I'll post the link to the tutorial in the transcript below.

ASSIGNMENTS
There are three kinds of assignments that are related to the textbook...

- vocabulary, speaking and video exercises on EnglishCentral.com --- these are the COURSEWORK assignments
- study quizzes on the DavesLL website --- these are the HOMEWORK assignments
- tests on the DavesLL website are the course TESTS assignments

COURSEWORK ASSIGNMENTS --- STRUCTURE
These consist of vocabulary, speaking and video exercises on EnglishCentral.
These exercises are generally self explanatory and easy to understand.

COURSEWORK ASSIGNMENTS --- GOALS
There are 15 units.
Do all of the exercises and complete all 15 units.

COURSEWORK ASSIGNMENTS --- INSTRUCTIONS
This is how you do the exercises.

・go to EnglishCentral.com and login
・click the VOA News Clip Collection icon on the class page
this will take you to the assignments page
・select a unit... for example unit 01...
・watch the video...
・watch the video again(!)...
・learn the words
select the words you want to learn
then listen and fill in the blanks
・speak the lines
select the lines you want to practice
give permission for access to your microphone if necessary
listen to each line
click to record
say the line and click to stop
check your score for each line and repeat if necessary

It's a good idea to copy the speaker's voice --- fluency, emphasis and intonation.
It also helps if you ignore any subtitles.
Finally, complete all the exercises and do the next unit.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS --- STRUCTURE
These consist of study quizzes on the DavesLL website.
Study quizzes are not tests.
It is possible to get a score of 100% in every study quiz.
You just have to work hard.
The features of these quizzes include...

- Questions in the study quizzes are the same as the questions in the textbook.
- Check your answers as you study.
- To improve your grades, just fix any mistakes.
- You are allowed three attempts.
- The pass mark is 60%.

If you need more attempts, just tell me.
Scores of less than 60% are still valid and count towards your grade.
They are not automatically changed to zero.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS --- GOALS
Do all the study quizzes for the semester.
Get 100% score.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS --- INSTRUCTIONS
This is how you do the quizzes.

・Click on the quiz link. For example, unit 01...
・Then click on "Attempt quiz now".
・Do the quiz...
　- answer the questions
　- check your answers
　- correct your mistakes
　- finish the attempt
　- click "Submit all and finish"
　- check your score

Remember you can repeat these quizzes if you want to get a higher score.
It is much easier and faster if you refer to your previous quiz attempt while you are completing the 2nd attempt.
If you do multiple attempts, only your highest score will be submitted.

TESTS --- STRUCTURE
TESTS grades are based on one-time-only vocabulary tests.
These are on the DavesLL website.
The vocabulary is taken from the textbook and the previous assignments.
So it's better to complete the assignments before you do the tests.
You can also refer to your textbook while you are doing the tests.

The features of these tests include...
- Pass the homework assignments to access these tests.
- These tests are timed for 15 minutes.
- You have only one attempt.
- Navigation is sequential.
Be careful --- do NOT skip any questions. You can't go back.
- The pass mark is 60%.

Again, scores of less than 60% are still valid and count towards your grade.
They are not automatically changed to zero.

TESTS --- GOALS

Do all the tests for each semester.
Get the best score that you can.

TESTS --- INSTRUCTIONS
This is how you do the tests.

・Click on the test link. For example, test 01...
・Then click on "Attempt quiz now".
・Do the test...
　- answer the questions in order
　- choose from a list of words to complete the sentences
　- finish the attempt
　- click "Submit all and finish"
　- check your score
