Draydel Applique

Materials: This can be made with 2 colors of any yarn. Gauge is not important.

The model was made with a size 5 (1.9 mm) steel hook using Herrschners 2-ply afghan yarn-about 5 yards of turquoise yarn and less than a yard of white. The finished piece is 2” tall by 1 ¼” wide. In the top photo, the draydel has been attached to a crocheted stocking using the starting and ending tails that are shown on the bottom photo.

Notes:

When working into the ch4 in row 1 or the ch3 in row 2, put the hook into the back of the ch. (This makes less of a gap than trying to work into the front of the ch.)

Change color by drawing a loop of the new color through the last loop of the sc in the old color. (i.e. insert hook into stitch, draw up a loop, yo in new color and draw through both lps on hook).

When working with 2 colors on this pattern, leave the unworked color behind as a float. (That is why this pattern is listed after instructions for more than 2 colors even though it is worked in only 2 colors.
