I began my service as Scout Executive for the Black Hills Area Council in June of 2018.
Responsibilities:
Serve 30 counties in Western South Dakota and Eastern Wyoming
Supervise 5 to 7 staff members
Recruit Board Members
Maintain proper governance
Develop and maintain council budgets
Develop new and existing staff members
Represent the council and BSA at all local events
Annual Leadership Breakfast
Accomplishments:
Successfully navigated and lead council through 2020 COVID Year
Successfully navigated the lead council through the National Bankruptcy
Secured and paid Victim's Fund assessment
Started tenure with -$235,000 net assets, net assets as of December 2022 was +$170,000
Raised $350,000 for debt reduction in 2020/2021
Raised $75,000 to $85,000 at annual Leadership Breakfast
Paid off Line of Credit in October 2020, did not use thereafter
Clean Audits for 2018 through 2022
Ended 2018 and 2021 with surplus revenue over expenses
Started Medicine Mountain Fun Run special event fundraiser
10% growth in popcorn sales in 2019
7% Membership growth in 2019, 8th in the Nation
Unit growth in 2019
Personally started the first girl troop in the Black Hills Area Council
Continuous +15% gender diversity since BSA tracking began
Recruited 19 new Executive Board members
Increased the diversity of Executive Board members by gender, ethnicity, age, and geography
Restructured staff to a financially sustainable level
Record summer camp attendance in 2018
Stabilized Scouts BSA camp attendance (1000 youth)
Continued to improve camp facilities including renewed trading post and camp office, one latrine, one shower house, painted training center, archery range, and rifle range. Short-term plans to finish rifle range, one more latrine, pump house, and deep well repair
Returned over $150,000 of camp revenue to operating budget in 2021 and 2022
Graduated from Leadership Rapid City 2018 class
Brought back Wood Badge training to the Black Hills Area Council in 2022
Successfully navigated a conditional charter in 2020-2021
Grew the Order of the Arrow membership from 40 participants to 103 participants, increasing female adult and youth participation
25% of Arrowmen attended NOAC 2022, highest in the country by lodge
