Plants for Hydroponics
We have tested many different plants in our hydroponic systems. We will continue to try new species!Every plant requires their own set of nutrient, temperature, and pH parameters. When growing multiple species in one system can be a little difficult.

Basil
We have tested a variety of species of basil. We recommend starting with Basil or another leafy plant as your first plant. However, we have had some challenges with keeping a consistent flavor. They also need a cool air temperature to keep them from bolting or blooming.
Tomatoes
Beefsteak tomatoes
In 2 attempts, we ran out of time to allow fruit to fully grow and ripen. They also require a lot of structural support.
Tomatoes
"Sweet and Neats'
Started 2 plants seedlings from a nursery. Great tomatoes for hydroponics! Grows very quickly and is VERY small. Produces cherry size fruits.
Broccoli
Started them from seedlings from the store. They grew very quickly and did great in our system. Got multiple heads and harvests. Tasted great.
Will be planting more in the future!
Lettuces
A variety of species
Black seed Simpson
Lettuce Bib
Buttercrunch
Romaine and others!
All appeared to do great but keeping the air temperature cool is a necessity.
Green Beans and Peas
Two bush style plants produced multiple harvests. We were very pleased and will be planting more in the future.
Peppers and Cucumbers
For both, we never got fruit to grow large enough and to ripen. It is believed that time and temperature always played a role.
