History: The Maxwell Rodeo was started in 1985 by Sonny Walker. He took out a loan for $3,500 for the first rodeo. It has been self-sufficent since that first loan. The founding fathers of the rodeo committee were Sonny Walker, Mike Tinkham and Don Peters. Grand River Rodeo Company was hired to put on the rodeo. Various other companies have since followed their footsteps in Maxwell.

The Maxwell Rodeo has become a yearly event that attracts hundreds of people to the community. It is held the first weekend of August. The rodeo features all the favorite events such as bull riding, calf roping, team roping, barrell-racing, saddle bronc riding to name a few.

The Rodeo grounds now hosts various events, such as barrell-racing, several times a year.
