The Maxwell C.I.M. Unit (Crash Injury Management) was formed July 5, 1978, with 13 members. Each member had taken a course consisting of ten weeks of training on how to care for sick and injured persons in an emergency situation. The course was conducted through the local fire department by personnel from Mary Greely Hospital in accordance with Des Moines area XI Community College.
The Maxwell City Council and Trustees from the townships in this area provided money to the unit to purchase the needed equipment. Equipment was also purchased through fund raising by the unit members and donations by local persons. The equipment is stored at the fire department.
The unit members attend various meetings during the month to keep current on their skills. They have taken part in various projects outside the community such as the Pope’s visit and the Farm Progress show.
