2018 Competitions Climax

September saw the climax of several of the club’s competitions.

In the Gc handicap doubles competition, Lydia Hunt and Lynne Mason stormed to the final early in the month. After a scheduling delay, they were joined by the experienced pairing of Robert Cook and David Knill-Jones. The match went down to the wire with Robert and David prevailing at the golden hoop.

Tony Nicholas finally ended Andrew Wilson’s iron grip on the Cobbold Cup, the GC Club Championship. He played exceptionally well to overcome Andrew in a close fought 3 game final, a fine achievement in a level play match in the light of the 4 point handicap difference. Honours also to semi finalists Beryl Hughes and Robert Cook.

In the Association Croquet final ( The Timberlake Trophy ), Geoff Gunton defeated Colin Myerscough 20-10 on time. Ian Cobbold and John Horne had earlier stormed through their qualifying groups but both fell at the semi final stage.

It is great to see new names on both these trophies, continuing the trend of the club’s ever growing “strength in depth”. The full 2018 honours board can be found in the members area of the website.
