Records

We keep a record of our holidays for reference and to help plan future trips. This gives us an accurate breakdown of costs, the performance of the car with accurate MPG figures gathered on long and varied routes. The journey times recorded help when travelling the same routes in future.

The information is entered in an Excel spreadsheet and produces the 2 summary's shown below.

To do this the following data needs to be collected:

  • Credit card bills.

  • ATM and travel money records.

  • Campsite receipts.

  • Fuel purchases (preferably brim the tank to get an accurate MPG on that tank full )

  • Tolls.

  • Mileages at each end of the journey and at filling stations.

  • Times at each end of the journey and length of rest breaks.

  • Ferry, Insurance and other costs such as gardening.

The motoring information we record in a small notebook along with notes such as good spots for lunch or filling stations (if they are scarce in the area) etc

Attached to this page for download is the spreadsheet that produced these summaries and a blank copy.

Note it only calculates for Euros and Sterling
