Learning the recorder
The recorder is a beautiful musical instrument that has gained a bad rap in recent years. It is a truly accessible musical instrument; affordable, readily available, very portable and lots of great music to play.
Whether fulfilling a bucket list item to learn a musical instrument or dusting off early recorder skills it is great fun getting to know and play the recorder, particularly with others.
We are a tiny group so far with a kind and knowledgeable leader/mentor.
New players welcome!
FEBRUARY 2024:
The recorder group is going strong! Lots of practise. New pieces. New members. Lots of laughter.
In February we revisited Irish pieces from last year and we began focusing on learning The Irish Washerwoman.
New members are very welcome to join us!
OCTOBER 2023:
Practice, practice and more practice - part of our daily activities now! We continue to enjoy getting better with our recorder skills and learning new pieces of music.
AUGUST 2023:
We are becoming more proficient with our finger work and are working on beat! (Ahhh, the correct beat!) Currently we are playing a lot of duets - learning to play different parts together!
Newbies are welcome. (beginner through to rusty players - all welcome!) Sessions last for around an hour and a half.
JULY 2023: We had a few hiccups along the way, but the recorder group is back up and running.
MARCH 2023: We have been learning quite a bit of musical theory which supports our playing. We even played Irish tunes to celebrate St Pat's Day.
New players welcome
