Last week’s session was held on the riverbank in the Rockhampton CBD. This coincided with a display at the Art Museum, so we took that in as well.
March 2024:
This month I'd like to briefly highlight gouache (pronounced Gwash/Guwash). Typically, gouache is described as 'opaque watercolour', but is a bit more beginner friendly. It can achieve brilliant, vibrant colours that are more lightfast, smooth, and solid than watercolors. It is an excellent paint for poster dart, but can appear a bit flat and chalky.
January / February 2024:
I would like to briely highlight watercolour. (Some samples of the last session are to the right).
Although a bit trickier to use (watercolour bleeds and blends) watercolour can be flexible and fun, and its great for decorative work. Paint sets are easy to acquire, carry and use, but make sure you have a nice heavy watercolour paper to work on.
Though often immersed in their work, the group are not backward in mingling with each other and fellowship is welcome. So, if you would like to try Art and prefer being in a more informal setting feel free to join us. Tea, coffee, and biscuits provided.
November / December 2023:
Check out photos of our artists at work in November. -->
November 2023 also saw our first 'Sip n Paint' event where the task was to paint an Aussie Budgie. Budgies come in a variety of colours and the participants chose their own colour combinations to complete their work. By the end of our session no two budgies were the same. Great to see such beautiful rich colours. Check out our work from the evening. -->
Our theme for December will be: Festive. Hope everyone will find something fun and festive to paint to end our year.
We have a Paint and Picnic gathering at Bluff Point picnic park on Thursday 7th of December where we’ll sketch or paint, then end with a Christmas picnic.
I would like to make a special mention and thank Frank S. for presenting a talk and demonstration of his experience in colour line and wash technique. It really helps others seeing one of their peers sharing their knowledge and experience with the group.
Looking forward to seeing all in 2024.
October 2023:
Another month at our Art Group sessions has again produced some wonderful pieces. We're pleased to share some of our creations. Within the group we also share our art journeys with others, so it's an opportunity to learn from each other.
Only a few more sessions left for 2023. We look forward to sharing our art live at November’s general meeting.
September 2023:
Some members joined the trip to Great Keppel this month in tandem with the Anything Goes group. Many photos were taken and there is a lot of material for future artwork.
August 2023:
At the AGM this month we displayed samples of the wonderful pieces of art produced in the last year. this month There were examples of sketching, watercolour, gouache, acrylic and pastels. Members enjoyed viewing the exhibition. If you feel inspired you can come join us on 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month. Next month the Art Group is joining with the Anything Goes group to visit Great Keppel Island on Thursday 14 September.
July 2023: We have welcomed new members to our group of enthusiastic artists. So many wonderful pieces have been produced. Some great opportunities to paint and draw are available for anyone who maybe just wants a space where they can come together with like-minded others: no pressure, no judgement. Just come and enjoy yourself.
We will be displaying art works from our participants at the AGM on 18 August in the meeting room. Please browse and enjoy our sample work.
June 2023: There have been some wonderful pieces of art produced by our participants this month. We continue to explore our creativity through our art. It is important to note, also, that there is a strong social aspect that is just as important to the participants.
May 2023: Members have recently produced wonderful pieces in acyrlic, watercolour, gouache, ink and pencil sketching.
April 2023: Recent work by group members.
March 2023: On 23 March we took our group outdoors for our first En Plain Air session for 2023. We met in Beaman Park Yeppoon and we each selected something of interest that we would sketch. It was fascinating how many people wandering through the park stopped many of us to ask questions and share their own stories of drawing and sketching.
February 2023: We had a “Love" Theme for the week of St Valentine’s Day. Each person interpreted this in their own unique way and produced a piece of art from the heart. The following session, we worked on a range of art works, some of us finishing previously commenced pieces, with others working on skills by practising sketching. We even had “Cat Eating a Pizza” (special request from a granddaughter).
November / December 2022: Our art participants are still working on some wonderful pieces of art. The last 2 sessions included the themes “Halloween" and “Going Native” (including anything Aussie). Here are some samples of the amazing work done by our participants.
