We've been documenting our Anything Goes adventures on the website since 2023.
A group of around 20 headed off whale watching in August. There were whales galore. A fun day!
In July, 40 people gathered at Cockscomb Veteran's retreat, which sits at the foot of Mt Wheeler, just 3okms from Yeppoon. We enjoyed morning tea and lunch, chatted, wandered the grounds and visited the museum.
Visits by groups such as ours help to fund the work the group does to support veterans.
June saw a rather large group of local ladies (and lads) gathering at the Sailo to enjoy Morning Tea while listening to several speakers sharing their own experiences of Domestic Violence and / or outlining the support resources in our community.
This was not strictly a U3A Anything Goes event, but it was supported and attended by a large number of members.
Cr Andrea Friend and CapCoastU3A then President Rhonda Whitely were among the speakers.
The event resulted in more than 50 'dignity bags' going to DV victims in shelters in our region.
Beaches was the venue for a fun morning in May. The event, not strictly Anything Goes, but certainly supported by a number of U3A members, enabled MND & Me to purchase a wheelchair for a Motor Neurone Disease Sufferer.
0n a stunning autumn day on Thursday 17 April, Landcare guru and U3A member Malcolm Wells was our guest speaker at the beautiful Tanby Gardens Nursery.
Forty six of our members enjoyed morning tea and after learning of the work Malcolm and his team undertake, hopefully were inspired to sign up and join Malcolm and his volunteers who spend two hours a week beautifying our coastline, before a social morning tea gathering. No strenuous work no experience needed.
A presentation by our very own U3A Paul Collins, gave an interesting insight into Asian culture, which was enjoyed by forty-eight of our members. This was followed by a delicious morning tea and an opportunity to socialise. During this break a video, thanks to Melinda, showed our outings during 2023 and 2024. A huge thank you to my trusty helpers who help to make these successful events happen.
A large group of U3A members travelled by bus to the beautiful Haven at Emu Park, taking in the stunning colours of the ocean and views out to the Keppel Islands.
We learned the history of The Haven, which dated back to WW1 when the nurse who returned to Rockhampton after assisting so many Australian soldiers, acquired the Haven with money donated by these men.
After a delicious morning tea we were entertained by a musical trio of Amanda, Isla, our own U3A talent, and Charmaine the Haven Manager with their beautiful harmonising.
