Over the course of the year, Leo will be covering varying topics on meteorology guided by what people want to hear about.
Note that at times the information can be a little technical. If members would like the opportunity to peruse the material before each session, let Leo know. He is happy to email some pre-session reading for those who are interested.

Repair to the ozone hole is on track
APRIL 2024
Topics covered included a brief look at some tropical waves - Kelvin Waves, Equatorial Rossby waves and Mixed Rossby-Gravity waves; El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Neutral, La Nina and El Nino phases; The Southern Oscillation Index; Indian Ocean Dipole and the Positive, Negative and Neutral phases; and the Ozone Hole and the world's (successful) attempt to limit its increase in size. However, it will take many years to recover to it 1980 level.

MARCH 2024
Our March session looke a the general circulation of the atmosphere (with videos from UK met office); The Southern Annular Mode and then the Madden-Julian Oscillation (with videos this time from BOM).
FEBRUARY 2024
The inaugural session was well attended (18 members) and covered the composition and vertical divisions of the atmosphere and the distribution of the sun's radiation.
