Although Autodesk has updated its Knowledge Network article to include Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 as compatible OS for AutoCAD 2014, if you try to install it on a new computer with Windows 8.1, the installation may still fail.
The solution in this link works well. I have successfully installed AutoCAD 2014 on my new laptop with Window 8.1
