41a. Shingle Style (Woodstock)
The shingle style is an off-shoot of the adventurous Queen Anne. The ideal shape exists in Woodstock and appears above. Originating in New England, the Shingle Style is a large, plain, comfortable house that tries to blend in with its natural surroundings.
In reality, many of the shingle houses appear on a variety of different styles. The criteria seems to be that at least 50% of the house is covered in cedar shingles.

What to look for (clues)
1. At least 50 % of the house is covered with cedar shingles.
2. If the main floor is not shingled it will consist of stone or some other natural material.
3. The large roof is frequently the gambrel (barn) style and is met by a few steep gable roofs. A large chimney at the front of the house may pierce the roof.
4. A portion of the house may be rounded at one end, instead of possessing the normal corners.
5. A large verandah is common at the front of the house.
