*Refer to # 10, the Loyalist Ontario Cottage
20a. Loyalist House (Stratford) 1859
On a plaque it states, "a fine example of the Ontario House Style"
The Loyalist Ontario House is basically an enlarged version of the cottage. The differences are noted below. Many of the Loyalist buildings later adopted parts of the Gothic Revival style for decoration purposes making them much more difficult to identify.
20b. Loyalist House (Elora)
20c. Loyalist House (Mount Forest)
- A considerably steeper roof.
- A much steeper front gable which usually contains a larger window.
- The building is taller with two honest floors.
- Full-sized windows generally appear on the second floor.
20d. Loyalist House (Bobcaygeon)
The Loyalist House and Loyalist Cottage both became very popular styles throughout Ontario. They may be found in rural or the older urban sections in many centers.
