25/07/23 - The Match Secretary's team played their 2nd round tie of the Sivewright Quaich Tournament at Dunbar on a rather wet evening. Sean and Captain Hunter were always in control in the front match, reeling off many pars and finished 4 up. Meanwhile Thomas Hinds and Roy Miller also kept their noses in front to finish 3 up. An excellent win away from home.
04/07/23 - Bob Jackman won his age group category in the Baberton Seniors Open with a net 67 and came 4th overall.
29/06/23 - Our Match Secretary's Team had a resounding victory in the 2nd round of the Sivewright Quaich Tournament at Mortonhall GC against Watsonian GC. The front pair debutants Roy Miller and Thomas Hinds did a terrific job reducing a deficit from 4 down to 2, while regulars Kevin Mathews and team Captain Sean Black, despite losing the 1st, finished a ridiculous 11 Up ! They covered the 18 holes in level par in a foursomes format - outrageous!
06/06/23 - Dave Rankine had a "hole-in-one" at the 12th hole at Swanston when playing his BGC Singles tie against Stuart Ainslie. HOWEVER, that was after he hit his first tee shot out of bounds!! Dave still won that hole with a net 2 before losing the tie. That says everything about Dave's golf game this year.
03/06/23 - Roy Miller won the MGC Nett Championship qualifying medal with a score of 77 - 9 = 68.
01/06/23 - In their 1st round tie in the Sivewright Quaich Tournament the Captain's Team went down 3 & 2 against 2018 winners SMARTS at Prestonfield. Johns Notman & Dunn Snr had a very close game against their home pair but Masterton & Sykenewere up against a pair with combined handicap of 26 who were level par after 9 holes. Enough said?! Thanks for representing our Club, team.
24/05/23 - BGC's Match Secretary's team won their 1st round Sivewright Quaich tie against Caermount. Sean Black and Paul Greenslade had to give away 4 shots to the opposition who putted really well on the day and got to be 4up at one stage. In the back match, Richard Duncan and Stephen Graham gelled well to take a commanding lead past the turn and were about to go 7 up on the 16th meaning that Sean and Paul only required a half on 18 to see out the match. They duly obliged.
18/05/23 - John Dunn Snr holed out for an ace at the 147 yard 4th hole in the Glenbervie Senior Texas Scramble with an 8 iron. (His 2nd ace.)

11/08/22 - Murray Sykes was narrowly beaten 2 & 1 in the final of the Lothians Handicap Matchplay Tournament at Longniddry. Murray was behind after 4 holes but then won 3 in a row to get ahead. Some very good play from his opponent, however, eventually saw Murray concede defeat after 17 holes. A sterling effort representing our Club in a final that could have gone either way. Well done, Murray.

01/07/22 - After a slightly ropey start Murray Sykes won his 3rd round Lothians Handicap Matchplay tie 7 & 5 against James McLeish who is a member at Royal Musselburgh. Murray was 1 up after 7 holes then won the next 6 holes on the bounce. A highlight was a chip in for birdie at 11 from the side of the green (where he was getting a shot anyway!). A splendid result.
24/06/22 - The Summer Outing at Peebles was won by Ian McKerrow with a superb gross 76 (38 stableford pts) on the bih rule from John Masterton. Ian also won the scratch prize, 1 stroke ahead of our newest member, Thomas Hinds, making an excellent debut on the outing scene. Another point of note - Craig Taylor had a single Magic 2 ....... but it was at a par 4!
22/06/22 - Our Captain's team of Martin Hunter & Murray Sykes, John Notman & John Masterton were beaten 2 & 1 in the 2nd round of the Sivewright Quaich Tournament by the Royal Bank team at Ratho Park. A bad 3 days for BGC - both our teams out in the 2nd round.
20/06/22 - At Liberton GC our Match Secretary's team of Kevin Matthews & Aki Barbod, Sean Black & Stephen Graham were up against Kingston GC in the 2nd round of the Sivewright Quaich Tournament. Sadly, although Kevin & Aki finished 8 up, a series of bad luck and bad bounces meant that Sean & Stephen finished 9 down! An overall loss. Hard lines, guys.
30/05/22 - At Mortonhall GC, the Captain's team of Hunter & Sykes and Dunn & Notman won 4&3 in the 1st round of the Sivewright Quaich Tournament against Westermont (based at Merchants of Edinburgh GC).

18/05/22 - Kev Matthews aced the 10th at Mortonhall with a "nice punched wedge right of the pin, rolling up and in".
01/05/22 - The Spring Outing at Lanark was won by John Dunn with an excellent gross 78 (35 pts) and Robert Gray was runner-up with 33 pts. John also won the scratch prize. The only Magic 2 belonged to Ian McKerrow who holed his second shot from around 150 yards on the 348 yard 13th hole!
24/04/22 - In the Lothians Handicap Matchplay Tournament Murray Sykes played Frank Clark, a member of West Lothian GC, at Mortonhall. Murray received 4 shots and managed to win 5&4. Apart from the 8th hole where Murray lost a ball, Murray reported he played "fairly steady golf". Thanks Murray and best wishes in the next round.
23/04/22 - In the LGA Champion of Champions event, Gordon Shaw faced Dave Campbell who was representing Heriots, playing off 0.9, and the match was played in very good spirits. Gordon won the last 2 holes at Mortonhall to take it to extra holes but eventually lost on the 22nd hole. Gordon relayed how proud he was to represent our club in this event. Thank you Gordon and hard lines.
15/04/22 - John Duff had a hole-in-one at the 7th hole at MGC.
POST AGM 2021:
05/03/22 - Aki Barbod had his 5th hole-in-one, using a wedge at MGC's 17th hole. A sweetly struck shot landed 1 foot short of the bucket-sized hole and just had enough top spin to roll in!

27/12/21 - Barclay Wilkinson reported having won a trophy in New Zealand where he has been covid-stranded after travelling to visit his family there in October 2020! He won his trophy with a net 191, using best of 3 from 4 rounds. That was 10 under par overall and must be the furthest "away win" for any BGC member. Well played, Barclay!

08/10/21 - Kev Matthews won the Final of the Golf in Scotland stableford event at Castle Start with 40 pts and won a trip to the Turkey world finals early next year.
09/10/21 - John Dunn & Ian Jackson reached the final of the MGC Summer Foursomes and the match was still all square after 18 holes. At the 19th, however, John & Ian had to concede defeat. Tough to take but well done guys.
01/10/21 - An informal get-together in the MGC clubhouse was attended by 15 BGC members, partly to celebrate the recent Sivewright success but mainly to socialise again after all the Covid restrictions in the past 18 months. Club Secretary Richard organised an excellent evening with some superb food supplied by Mortonhall G.C. and Captain McKerrow organised a quiz on the Rules of Golf. The quiz ran to 18 multi choice questions and the pair of Richard D and Martin H won the star prize of a 4-ball at Deer Park G.C. Don't tell anyone but the winning score was 7 correct answers out of 18! 😱
30/09/21 - John Christie reached the final of the Mortonhall G.C. Summer Singles only to be beaten on the last green 2 & 1. Well done, John. You got much further than most players!
26/09/21 - The BGC Autumn Outing to Deer Park (Livingston) was won by John Christie with 38 stableford points (on the bih rule from Robert Gray). The scratch prize was won by Craig Taylor with a gross 76, 3 shots ahead of John Dunn.

24/08/21 - The Match Secretary’s team played their Sivewright semi-final tie against The City Chambers at Mortonhall – and won! Yes we have a team in the final again.
Our first pairing of John Dunn and Robert Gray got off to a good start winning the first and third holes Meanwhile Martin Hunter and Murray Sykes struggled with their putting early on, 3-putting three of the first four greens. As a result they were 2 down after 4 holes. John and Robert played some excellent golf thereafter to reach the turn 5up. M & M missed some opportunities to win some holes but buoyed by a good birdie 4 at the 8th (as the first couple had done), they reached the turn only 1 down.
Very good par 4s at 11 and 13 and a fine recovery at 14 for a par meant John and Robert were 6 up at that point. M&M squared their match with a fine par 4 at 13 even though their opponents had a stroke at that hole. They were still all square on the 16th tee, while John and Robert were 7up after 16 holes. The result was therefore a comfortable 7&5 win.
10/08/21 - In the Mortonhall G.C. Senior Open Greensomes, the BGC pairing of John Dunn & Ian Jackson finished in 2nd place with their net 70.
04/08/21 -The ‘Captain’s Team’ were beaten by Aegon at Niddry Castle in their quarter final tie of the Sivewright Quaich Tournament. Despite starting well and being 2up after 4 holes, Kevin Matthews and Sean Black suffered some unfortunate breaks to lose their game. Stephen Graham and Aki Barbod played well but could not overcome a pair with local knowledge and who played better than their handicap. Thanks for representing the Club and getting this far, guys.
29/07/21 - The Match Secretary's Sivewright Team of Gray & Masterton plus Dunn & Sykes won tonight at Turnhouse in the tightest of margins, 1 hole, despite both teams being 3 down at one point . An incredible turnaround. Well done guys.
13/07/21 - A BGC quartet of John Dunn, Ian McKerrow, Dave Rankine & Bob Jackman played in the Strathaven Open Senior Texas Scramble, scored 7 birdies & 11 pars for a net 54 and came 4th!
05/07/21 - The Match Secretary’s team won their tie against Kingston at Mortonhall. After torrential rain had closed the course earlier in the day, conditions improved to allow the team of Dougie Sutherland & John Dunn, Murray Sykes and Martin Hunter to secure a fine win by 5 & 4.
30/06/21 - John Christie had a hole-in-one at Leven Golfing Society's Senior Open. (John's 3rd ace, but his best one, he says!)

31/05/21 - Richard Duncan won the Mortonhall G.C. Bank Holiday Stableford competition with 40 points after a "card play-off" !
25/05/21 - Our first Sivewright match of the season took place against Heriot's at Kings Acre and our Captain's team were on the tee. Stephen Graham and Sean Black got off to a flier and were 6 up after 6 holes. This included two gross birdies at the 2nd and 5th holes. They were never troubled and increased their lead to 8 up after 14 holes. Meanwhile John Notman and Aki Barbod got off to a great start too winning the first 3 holes, a lead they never relinquished and were 4 up after 12 holes. John and Aki were steady throughout the match and never gave their opponents a chance to get back into the game. The result, therefore, was a resounding 12 & 10 win.
25/04/21 - Robert Gray won his first round Lothians Handicap Matchplay tie at Mortonhall, beating Ian Christie of Mount Vernon by 1 hole. Robert managed to keep the match all square after giving away the last of 5 shots after 13 holes. A chip to 1 foot at the 18th secured a fine win. Well played, Sir!

The Scratch was won by Craig Taylor who went round in 70. Kev won the Dell Cup and Craig won the Court Cup which was played over two rounds only due to the Spring Outing being cancelled. Well done guys.
06/09/20 - Kevin Matthews won the annual Paterson Putting Competition at Mortonhall G.C. (for the 2nd time).
09/08/20 - In the Mortonhall G.C. championships, Aki Barbod made it to the final of the Handicap Matchplay and John Duff made it to the final of the Senior Championship. Unfortunately both Buckstone "boys" were beaten in their finals but did very well to get there.

23/08/19 - In our Sivewright semifinal Gordon Shaw & Dougie Sutherland were 1 up and Robert Gray & John Inglis were 3 up at the turn. However, Observers stormed back in the second half and squared the match at the 18th despite Gordon and Dougie winning the last 3 holes. Unfortunately, the reverse was true for Robert and John. In the gathering darkness, all four players teed-off simultaneously at the 19th hole. The hole was lost and halved resulting in an overall loss on the night. A really gallant effort away from home. Well done team, and Sean Black who helped the team to get to the semifinal.
23/08/19 - Martin Hunter won the Merchants of Edinburgh G.C. Senior Open with a gross 68 (net 59 !!). Martin also had the lowest gross score for good measure.

30/07/19 - Richard’s team beat Heriot’s by the astonishing margin of 12 & 11 at Baberton. This exacted a good measure of revenge for Martin’s team who were well beaten by the same opponents at the same venue. Dougie and Sean were 6 up after 13, while Robert Gray and John Inglis were 6 up after 12.
22/07/19 - Robert Gray bowed out of the Lothians Matchplay Competition with his head held high. He was beaten at Craigmillar by a former Club Champion of Craigmillar but who now plays off 18.
