27/06/26 - Our Captain's Sivewright team played Kingston A at Mortonhall. The front pairing of Kevin M and Sean were giving our opponents 6 shots whilst Stephen G and Richard D were giving their opponents 5 shots. There was some excellent scoring from both sides and both teams went to the 18th before Kingston won 1 up in both matches.
20/06/26 - Thomas Hinds reached the final of the Merchants Club Championship to defend his title but was beaten. On the other hand, Stevie Graham managed to win the Nett Championship at Mortonhall G.C. - at the 18th!
24/05/26 - The Match Secretary's Team went down by 3 holes today to Hailes in a keenly contested match at Kingsknowe. Roy Miller and Paul Greenslade were quickly 2 down but squared the match after 8 holes. A big push by Hailes, however, meant that Roy and Paul lost 3 down. Malcolm Caldwell and Robert Gray had a very tight game and were 1 up after 17 holes. Then Hailes hit the pin at the 18th to finish within gimme range and so win the overall match 3 up.
20/05/26 - In the midweek stableford comp at Mortonhall G.C. our very own Paul Greenslade topped Division 2 with 38 points. Well done, Sir.
18/05/26 - In the 1st round of the Sivewright Quaich Tournament played at Mortonhall G.C. our Captain's team of Sean Black & Kevin Matthews, John Masterton & Stephen Graham were up against "Ye Monks of Braids @ Mortonhall" (yes, really). Sean & Kev had to give away 11 shots and were always up against it and finished 6 down. However, John & Steve more than compensated to win 8 up and provide an overall victory.
16/05/26 - our Team of David Liddle / Craig Taylor/ Andy Hogg / Paul Logan represented our Club in the 1st round of the Dispatch Trophy. The match against a strong Heriot's team went all the way to the 18th hole and finished all square. Sadly, our boys were defeated at the first extra hole. Thanks for representing our Cub so well, guys.

Thanks for representing the Club so well, Murray.

26/08/25 - In the re-match of the Sivewright semifinal, Kevin and Sean got out to a fast start and were 3 up early on and managed to hold that lead throughout most of the tie. In the front match the Captain's team went on a surge and won holes 4 through 7 to gain a tidy lead.
Knowing the Captain's front pairing had stretched their lead to 7 up, it was all to do for the Match Secty's team and the semi final came to a close with the Captain's team winning 5 & 4 after 68 holes.
20/08/25 - John Jack came equal top in the Mortonhall G.C. midweek stableford comp with 41 points but was beaten in a "card play-off".
20/08/25 - In what was a historic evening for our Club, the semi final match took place between BGC Captain's team and BGC Match Secretary’s team - and it lived up to the billing. In the front pair John Dunn Jr/Sandy Myles were giving Murray Sykes/Martin Hunter 7 strokes. In the back match Sean Black and Kevin Matthews were giving 3 shots to John Dunn Snr and John Notman.
At the turn John & John were 4 up on Sean and Kevin, quickly moving to 5 up through 10, then 3 up through 12. The front match was nip tuck.
The drama unfolded as, overall, the Match Secretary's squad were 4 down with both teams to play 17 & 18. In dwindling light Sean fired up his team to win all 4 holes - one match finished 2 up, the other 2 down.
A great advert for our Club which sets up the rematch for Tuesday at 16.30.
10/08/25 - In the Mortonhall G.C. medal Graeme Stark was top of Division 2 with a net score of 68. (82 less 14. Yes .... 14!)
03/08/25 - The Captain's team won our Sivewright tie against Caermount 7&5 at Mortonhall GC.
The opening pair of Hunter and Sykes managed to build a 3up lead by winning the 9th hole. The second pairing of Dunn Snr and Notman were 2 up at the turn.
After winning the 10th hole to go 4up, the opening pairing halved the next 6 holes. Moving to 3up after the 15th, Dunn and Notman closed out the tie 7&5.
That result means that our Captain’s team meets our Match Secretary’s team in the semi-final!
30/07/25 - The Mortonhall G.C. midweek medal was won by Iain Harkness with a (ridiculous) net 61.
14/07/25 - The Match Secty’s team recorded a 3 up overall victory at Liberton G.C. v Mount Vernon. Billy Young and Sean paired in the front match, with John Masterton and Sandy Myles pairing in the back match. Billy and Sean received 1 shot with Sandy and John giving 1 shot.
The front team went 2 up through 4 but soon were level through 6. On holes 14 & 15 we got up and down from 100 yards on both holes and we had at least 9 x one putt holes with Billy holing a 50 footer on 15. The front match finished all square.
In the back match MV went 2 up early on but our gents managed to win 5 on the bounce to push the score to 3 up BGC and kept in front to give the overall win.
10/07/25 - Sean Black (and 170 other) "artisan golfers" entered the Esmond Trophy competition in July. Sean got through the strokeplay qualifying for the last 32 to take part in the matchplay. He won his first round tie 6 & 5 but in his 2nd round tie lost to a birdie on the 17th hole over the West course at North Berwick. Well done to get that far, Sean!
09/07/25 - In the midweek stableford comp at Mortonhall G.C. Stephen Graham scored an outrageous 49 points. Needless to say, he won!
24/06/25 - BGC had to give 6 strokes to Scarifiers. The front pair of Sandy Myles & John M Dunn went 2 down early through 2 holes. A spirited battle saw them pull the tie back to level. Scarifiers managed to get their noses in front again and pulled out to 4 up. Sandy managed a monster putt on 17 to pull the match back to 3 down however the 18th was lost with some trouble in the quarry and the match finished 4 down.
In the back pairing, Sean and Kev started well, winning the 1st with a steady par. Scarifiers used their stroke well on the 2nd to draw level. This lasted until the 4th where a solid par was enough to go ahead in the match. We proceeded to extend the lead to 3 up through 6 and apart from a minor rally losing 11 & 13 against a stroke we were always fairly comfortable. Of the last 4 holes we won 15/16 & 18 against the loss of 17 meaning a 5up win.
The 18th proved pivotal, Overall we won the tie 1 up.
24/06/25 - The Captain's team won our Sivewright tie against SMARTS 4 & 2 at Mortonhall GC despite having to concede 6 strokes. The opening pairing of Hunter & Sykes got off to a slow start and as a result were 4 down after 9 holes. In contrast the second pairing of Dunn Snr. & Gray, playing good golf, were 3 up after 9 holes.
After a slight rally the opening pairing went to 3 down after 13 holes. However we then went on to win 16 and 17, to be dormie 1, thanks to some clutch putts from Hunter. The second pairing continued to extent their lead on the back nine and closed out the tie at the 17th 4 & 2.
22/06/25 - Aki Barbod was the beaten finalist in the Mortonhall G.C. Nett Championship.
21/06/25- In the Championship Final at the Merchants of Edinburgh G.C. Thomas Hinds triumphed 6 & 5 over 36 holes. A notable mention must also go to Kenny Roy who reached the semifinal of the same Championship, beating a +3 handicapper on the way.

22/05/25 - The Captain's team won our 1st round tie 6&5 away to Observers at Craigmillar Park. The opening pair of the Captain and Ian McKerrow got of to a fast start going 5 up after 6 holes. After this they traded holes with our opponents but were still 4 up after 14 but then lost 15 & 16 to be 2 up. The second pairing of John Notman and Robert Gray were 3 up after 9 holes and got to 5 up after 12 holes. By the 15 they were still 4 up.
The Match Secretary's team were given a walkover in their first round tie when their opponents failed to raise a team.

In second place came John Jack (net 44). Next Winter, Dave's handicap will be cut by 7 strokes and JJ's by 5 strokes!
In the cumulative scratch competition our Club Secretary, John Dunn Snr. was runner-up, only 1 shot off the winning score of 53 (gross).
