Set in the modern/present time
THE DAY
a man wakes up and for 1 day he has the ability to permanently restore sight to blind people just by touching them
- visited by a spirit in a dream, who tells him that when he wakes up he will have this ability
- When wakes up he notices an unusually high level of energy... none of the regular aches and pains were present... he generally feels healthy, strong, and motivated to be active... border lining on hyperactive...
- this feeling was not mentioned by the spirit in his dream, but somehow it was this drastically uncharacteristic feeling that prompted him to find out if what the spirit said was true...
- coincidentally, the man lives a few doors down from a couple with a blind child
- it's kinda weird for him to find an opportunity to touch their kid without seeming like some kind of freaking weirdo
- he manages to find an opportunity to "accidentally" bump into the kid to make direct contact... and that's when everything goes crazy
- when it is confirmed that it is actually real, special attention is given to transporting as many blind people to him as possible
- all mass transportation vehicles are basically required to exclusively cater to this cause and accommodate those who are trying to get to the special man for healing
- the rest of the world is surprisingly accepting and supportive of this even though many of them may be seriously inconvenienced and even though this is such an amazing supernatural event
- basically, the entire world shuts down and focuses on assisting the transporting efforts for the blind
- people are brought to him from all over the world to have their vision restored
- countless people descend on this city by every form of transportation imaginable
- the transformation is instantaneous by skin to skin contact
- at first, people were instructed to simply extend their hand and he would basically run down the line making contact with every person
- he ends up at the airport where he is transported from plane to plane since it is found to be the fastest method for him to simply board each plane and walk through with his arms outstretched
- at some point he happens to discover that if two people are touching each other, and he touches just one of them, then both people will be cured
- taking it even further he learns that if an entire chain of people are holding hands, then he only has to touch one of them and the effect goes through them all
- this discovery greatly improves the process
- then a golf cart is used to take him from plane to plane
- a steady flow of buses drive directly onto the tarmac where the same technique is used
- in most cases, the people who were healed would be slightly disoriented at first
- sometimes great drama would occur, especially by people who had been blind from birth
- obviously, if a person's eyes were "damaged" or missing, they were not able to be healed. some people had just one eye fixed while the other remained inoperable due to damage
- he is able to heal a HUGE number of blind people........ including ALL of the blind people in that city and surrounding towns
- by the end of the day, the flow was reduced to only a sporadic trickle of those who were slower or had a more difficult time making the trip (which is understandable since they ARE blind)
AFTER THAT DAY
- at one point he gets a break, and for a short time there is no longer anyone in line, almost as if everyone who needed it was healed
- he falls asleep from exhaustion (the natural energy feeling having disappeared after exactly 24 hours)
- as he sleeps, he is protected by many people who believe he may be god, an alien, or any one of countless other theories
- when he awakes, the ability is gone... the typical feeling of "oldness" returns...
- quite a few people who make it there for healing are disappointed that they are too late
- he is interviewed by everyone about the dream and the spirit (which he can't really explain)
- the man, previously being a firm atheist, is now seriously questioning that standing........obviously his life is never the same again
- the people who were healed continue to see, and they show their gratitude to him in different ways
- the government studies him
- some people continue worshiping him
- and some people try assassinating him, thinking that his unnatural gift was an indication that he was the antichrist
- he is overwhelmingly showered with gifts and donations from wealthy people who had been healed or had family and/or friends who were healed
TWISTS
- A fanatic posing as a blind person shoots him (not fatally), he chooses to struggle with the pain and continue healing people... doctors and medical workers are there to care for him while he works
- Trained security agents volunteer taking steps to prevent another attempt on his life
- The government wants to take him immediately, but are forced to wait by MANY civilian protesters, practically rioting to keep him from being taken
- An extremely small percentage of people who had been healed mysteriously end up dying from complications that are never really understood, but are found to be directly related to being healed. This causes uncertainty among those who were healed as to whether or not they might suffer the same fate.....but it's only an extremely small percentage of people who have adverse effects.
SETUP
- The spirit in the dream also told him that this would happen one more time in the future. He would again be visited in a dream the night before, and he would again have another day to heal people.
- Not sure if he should make it known to the world that the spirit told him this would happen again.
- If he does mention it, he is worried that the city he lives in will be flooded with people looking forward to that day. Although, that WOULD ensure the greatest number of people could be healed when the day finally does come.
- Of course, even though the spirit said that to him, there technically is no solid assurance that it actually WILL happen again. This would basically be the only downside to telling everyone.
