Products and Services
What can we sell?
Whether freelancer or employee, knowing Excel opens a huge market potential. With it we can provide our employers or clients financial models, business plans, business analysis, budgets, forecasts, dashboards, application prototypes and much, much more. Note! These are solutions. Not technology.
It is never about the technology
As someone who made his career in technology, I learned early on that when talking to clients about solutions, I never talk about the technology. While I may be an Excel expert, that is of no value to clients. Clients are looking for solutions to problems. Does our client need to know how much money they need for a project? Then we are selling a project model. We are not selling Excel expertise. I sell myself as a someone who finds revenue opportunities and costs savings. I use Excel to do that, but Excel is my tool, not a product I offer. Our tool, Excel, Power BI, and Power Query, just happens to be well suited to provide the services listed below.

Overcoming Knowledge Gaps
The list above spans many disciplines. Many of these reports can be Googled to learn how to construct them. There are also online classes we can take to get grounded in certain subjects. We can also partner with subject matter experts (SMEs). SMEs are often in our client's business which the client can provide at no cost to us. The SME knows the subject, but not how to model it. Together we can create solutions our client needs and after having learned from the SME, we may even be able to provide the same service to other clients who do not have such SMEs.Â
When the client does not have an SME, we need to find a consultant. For more on contracting SMEs see Partner Acquisition. But the important things is knowing that when asked if we have a required expertise we can truthfully reply with the same response offered by the big three management consultants, "we have partners who do."
