BXL TOC Helper

Beyond Excel's (BXL's) Add-in:

TOC Helper

Effortlessly Add Table of Contents

Why do I need a Table of Contents (TOC) add-in?

The more complex our projects get, the greater the need for a really good table of contents (TOC). A good TOC provides:

  • Documentation which is critical to making our projects understandable by the people who review our work, use our work, and maintain our work.

  • One-click-navigation to all of our project's sections from the TOC to make getting around our model's components quick and easy.

  • A catalog of our project's Worksheets, Tables, Names, PivotTables and Charts so we can have an overview of our project's structure and resources.

What's so special about BXL TOC Helper?

There are many TOC solutions. They include manually typing worksheet names and inserting links, power query solutions that find our worksheets and with formulas, link to them, and VBA solutions that builds tables and adds links to them. This add-in uses VBA too. But it doesn't just list worksheets. It catalogs worksheets, tables, names, pivotTables and charts. It places them in an outline so we can see what belongs to what. It provides a slicer so we can focus on just worksheets, or just tables, or just names, etc. It fleshes out our TOC by finding and including titles, labels, comments, data validation input messages, and object properties. And it adds links to the top left cell of every worksheet so we can one-click-navigate back to our TOC from anywhere in our project.

But that's not all!

BXL's TOC add-in is a two way solution. It can not only read titles, comments, data validation, and properties, but it can also write them. If, while looking at the TOC, feel the need to tweak titles or descriptions, we can make them here and the click Update Descriptions to push back to their respective Excel objects.

BXL's TOC add-in makes table of content creating and management quick and effortless. It is the most complete solution providing a robust catalog of well documented Excel components with navigation to and from model sections.
