The 1619 Project is an ongoing initiative from The New York Times Magazine that began in August 2019, the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American slavery. It aims to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative.
Matches will analyze and discuss the main ideas of The 1619 Project after watching a video in which creator Nikole Hannah-Jones introduces the project. Matches then explore how the legacy of slavery can be seen in modern life through an activity in breakout rooms with other matches, and reflect on themes and issues related to Black history they want to know more about.
This match event is in honor of Black History Month and recommended for Littles in 7th grade and older.
When: Tuesday, February 22nd from 5.30-6.30pm
