HOMEWORK GUIDELINES:
Students should expect homework every week for every class. Teachers have their own policies for homework that are consistent with ASSG guidelines. Students should expect to become familiar with their teachers' policies in regard to: working independently vs. collaboratively, point value of any given assignment, late homework policy, storage of assignments, etc.. Teachers are expected to be clear in communicating expectations to students.
The ASSG Plagiarism Policy applies to all homework assignments. Students and parents must be familiar with and adhere to this policy.
HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS:
Homework should:
Be consistently written down neatly and concisely for effective use. See "Assignment Planner" below for suggestions.
Be managed so that the assignments are completed throughout the work week in order to have time to complete all assignments well. Students should structure their time and learning and not leave work for the end of the week.
Be completed neatly and well - including spelling and heading information (with the student's name, date, and subject) as needed.
Be consistently turned in to the teacher when due.
Meet the parents' and teachers' expectations for quality of work.
Be done either independently, or in a collaborative manner with one or more other students, according to the instructions of the teacher.
Be stored in an organized, accessible way, according to the directions of the teacher.
ASSIGNMENT PLANNER: Homework and assignments should be written down. Students should not rely on memory. It is suggested to use a dedicated assignment planner (at least 4" x 6"). Some classes require the use of a planner. Click the link for details: Assignment Book Sample/Use.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES: As part of the learning team, parents should check with each of their students to make sure all homework guidelines are being met each week. Please contact the teacher if you have any concerns or questions regarding your student's homework, understanding of content, or class participation.
A note to the teacher from a parent on the day work is due is required if the student is unable to have homework completed. A student who has a pattern of incomplete homework assignments will incur disciplinary action, and may be asked to leave the program.
MAKING UP MISSED HOMEWORK: See the instructions on the "Absences" page. Students are responsible for making up any missed assignments.
