All Saints Studies Group recognizes that some students in grades 7 or 8 may be accelerated in their learning and ready for high school course work. It is common in traditional schools to offer high school level courses for these students, or to allow younger students to test into higher level classes.
ASSG desires to support this practice also for the homeschool community, while at the same time being very careful to maintain the academic integrity of our courses. Our teachers already may have a wide age range in their class (grades 9-12); we do not wish to stretch them further with a younger student who needs extra help or ask them to adjust the pace of the class for that student. Therefore we will accept accelerated younger students into core ASSG classes on a case by case basis, and under certain conditions.
Of course, any student must meet all prerequisites of a class in order to enroll.
Of course, any student enrolled in ASSG must uphold the Code of Conduct in the same way as any other student. Our expectations of each ASSG student is the same.
A board member must approve any younger student registration.
The teacher of the class must approve any younger student registration. They may require some demonstration of a student's abilities such as a writing sample or an entrance test.
We will initiate this process after of any year for younger students, so that the students in grade 9-12 have sufficient opportunity to fill the classes that they need.
Our cancellation policy in regard to refunds does not change in this situation. Any courses dropped in the first two weeks of classes can be fully refunded, but beyond that, the semester's tuition will not be refunded.
Ongoing monitoring of this situation will be required:
We will need to ensure that a younger student enrolled in a core class is not struggling painfully or holding back the pace of the class. We want it to be a fruitful experience for the student, the teacher, and the rest of the class. This is the plan to meet that goal:
A board member will be in touch with a younger student's parent quarterly to be sure that things are going well from the parent and student perspective.
A board member will be in touch with the teacher quarterly to be sure that things are going well from the teaching and classroom perspective.
A younger student must maintain a C average or higher at all times. Failure to do this would demonstrate that the class is not an appropriate level for the student, and the class should be dropped.
***Please contact a board member if you have an accelerated younger student who you feel is ready for high school classes. We would be happy to discuss this with you.
