Born Marguerite Annie Johnson in 1928, Maya Angelou was an African American poet, writer, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She is best known for one of her 7 autobiographies called, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. Maya was also an actor, journalist, director, and producer of plays, movies, and public television programs. In 1993 she recited one of her poems at President Clinton's inauguration. She passed away in 2014 at the age of 86.
