High Performance Computational Systems Biology (HiBi 2012)

special session of

10th International Conference on

Computational Methods in Systems Biology (CMSB 2012)

Brunel University, London, UK

3-5 October, 2012

Computational methods in biology enable the systematic study of the complex interactions that characterize biological systems. Mathematical modelling is a necessary tool to unambiguously represent the information about the behaviour of the considered system and to enable sophisticated predictive analysis. One of the main limitations in managing models of biological systems comes from the inconsistency between their inherently parallel nature and the sequential computer programs/algorithms which are commonly used to analyze them. Such limitations affect all varieties of models, ranging from continuous-deterministic to discrete-stochastic ones. High Performance computing is arguably the most popular approach for tackling the computational requirements of complex applications. The goal of HiBi is therefore to bring together researchers in the fields of high performance computing and computational systems biology, hence establishing a forum for discussing challenges, new ideas, results, applications and future directions concerning high performance computing in biology.

Following the success of the 2011 edition, the HiBi workshop has merged with CMSB. This is a unique opportunity for our community to join a larger community and to spread our results.

ACM Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and Biomedicine (ACM BCB) is the main flagship conference of the ACM SIG Bioinformatics. ACM BCB 2012 is in its third year, building upon the success of ACM BCB 2010 in Niagara Falls and ACM BCB 2011 in Chicago. Each of the conference had about 200 attendees. ACM BCB 2011 will be held in Orlando from October 7-10, 2012.

The conference will provide a premier forum for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research encompassing disciplines of computer science, mathematics, statistics, biology, bioinformatics, and biomedicine. The last two decades have led to a tremendous growth in the size and dimensionality of biological and biomedical data. This conference serves to provide information on leading edge in research in processing, modeling and analyzing these datasets for a variety of applications.

Examples of the topics that will be covered include:

    1. Genomics and Evolution
    2. Protein and RNA Structure, Protein Function, and Proteomics
    3. Computational Systems Biology
    4. Next Generation Sequencing Data
    5. Medical Informatics and Translational Bioinformatics
    6. Cross-Cutting Computational Methods
    7. Bioinformatics Infrastructure
    8. Immunoinformatics and Computational Immunology

ACM Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing

Welcome to HPDC'12

The organizing committee is delighted to invite you to HPDC'12, the 21st International ACM Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing, to be held in Delft, the Netherlands, which is a historic, picturesque city that is less than one hour away from Amsterdam-Schiphol airport.

HPDC is the premier annual conference on the design, the implementation, the evaluation, and the use of parallel and distributed systems for high-end computing. HPDC is sponsored by SIGARCH, the Special Interest Group on Computer Architecture of the Association for Computing Machinery.

HPDC'12 will be held at Delft University of Technology, with the main conference taking place on June 20-22 (Wednesday to Friday), and with affiliated workshops on June 18-19 (Monday and Tuesday).
