2nd International School on Biomolecular and Biocellular Computing (ISBBC'13)

Post date: Aug 26, 2013 8:33:23 PM

Biomolecular and Biocellular Computing is a computational paradigm inspired by Biology. It belongs to the general framework known as Natural Computing. Its target is the change of physical media of computation, from electronic hardware based on silicon (silicon chips) to biochemical media based on carbon.

The Second International School on Biomolecular and Biocellular Computing is an activity of the Spanish Network on Biomolecular and Biocellular Computing (REDBIOCOM), supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under the Complementary Action TIN2011-15874-E (TSI) and the Junta de Andalucía under the Project PAI-TIC-193 and the Excellence Project P08-TIC-04200.

The School will take place at the Escuela Universitaria de Informática, (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) Madrid, Spain, from Monday, September 23 to Wednesday, September 25, 2013. This year, the School is co-located with the Natural Information Technologies (NIT 2013) conference. NIT 2013 conference will be held from September 23 to September 28 at Madrid. Attendants to the School or NIT 2013 conference will benefit for free registration or reduced fees in the other event.

This School intends to provide an opportunity for young researchers and students (namely, Master students, PhD students and Postdocs) in Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Biology interested in Natural Computing, Systems and Synthetic Biology, Bioinformatics and bio-technological applications.

The lectures that will be given at the School will cover recent developments on the following topics, each of them introduced by an internationally recognised invited speaker:

  • Membrane Computing
  • Bioinformatics, Systems and Synthetic Biology
    • Invited speaker: Dr. Andrei Paun. Louisiana Tech University and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
  • Bio-operations and Networks of Bio-inspired Processors
    • Invited speaker: Prof. Dr. Victor Mitrana. University of Bucharest and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

Participants will also have an opportunity to ask for a grant which covers partially or totally the costs of attending to the School. The application should be sent toAna Ruíz (anarumez@us.es) before Monday, September 9, 2013.
