Employment Of Naval Forces Correspondence Course
Employment Of Naval Forces Correspondence Course
An opportunity to study at the Naval War College was one of the highlights of my naval career. Though entirely conducted via mail (and not email!) It was edifying and required a considerable amount of hard work. Tutors at that NWC responded to submissions with detailed multipage critiques as well as annotations in my submitted text. It was not hard to put forth a lot of effort when one know that there was a knowledgeable person that was going to go through it with a fine tooth comb.
The course was entitled "Employment of Naval Forces" and was conducted during the late 1980's The Cold War was still active (though the USSR was showing signs (e.g., Chernobyl) of shakiness. The focus of the course was understanding the role of the Navy in confronting an aggressive Soviet Union at sea. It is interesting to examine both the questions and my responses in this context. Where they accurate? Are they relevant to today's world?
The course work was submitted in a dozen or so assignments. The studient was provide with reading, usual quite extensive, and a list of questions or discussion topics. The goal was to submit a package every month or so. Submissions are shown individually below.
1- Introduction and Perspective This section consists three course submissions.
