Senior Year - Timeline
All Year
Continually check into your Naviance Student: account. Access a list of all of the scholarships we have on file, find out when college reps are going to be visiting our school, get the dates for upcoming events, find great links to career websites, and much more!
Visit college campuses every chance you get!
Search for scholarships. There's a lot of free money you can get your hands on if you just put in a little effort doing your research.
September
If you have not completed the required tests or if you are not happy with your scores, register for the upcoming SAT and ACT. Have official test scores sent to the colleges that you are applying to.
Be sure your Infinite Campus and Naviance information is current. Are your e-mail, phone, and home address current?
Meet with college admission reps who come to visit our school. You can find upcoming visits on your Naviance Student account.
Know your earliest application deadline for the schools and scholarships you wish to apply to.
Notify the teacher(s) who are writing your letter of recommendation of your application deadline. Notify them 3-4 weeks before the deadline.)
Double-check your college admission requirements. Verify that the colleges you've chosen are appropriate for your academic and personal record.
Review your applications, transcript, and college essays with your parents and school counselor to ensure they are accurate and complete.
October
Complete your FAFSA. The first day that you can submit this is October 1st.
Mid-October is a great time to visit college campuses to make final decisions. Many plan programs for prospective freshmen around this time.
Check deadlines and keep working on applications!
November
You can start the Financial Aid process. Both you and your parents need to obtain a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov so you can begin filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) online. Check to see if the colleges to which you are applying require any other financial aid forms.
Aim to have college applications done by Nov. 15
December
Keep looking/applying for scholarships using Family Connection and Fastweb.
January
Keep working in your classes! Grades and courses continue to count throughout senior year.
Keep your admission/application status current on Naviance Student. Midyear transcripts will be sent to all colleges that you have requested initial transcripts for.
February
If you completed a FAFSA, you should receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) within four weeks after submitting the FAFSA. Review the SAR carefully and check for any inaccuracies. If necessary, correct any items on the SAR and return it to the FAFSA processor (If a college transmitted your data directly, notify the college of any change.)
Register and pay for AP Exams, if appropriate.
Complete scholarship applications. You may be eligible for more scholarships than you think, so apply for as many as you can! You can research these on Naviance Student.
March
Stay focused and keep studying!
April
Review your college acceptances and financial aid awards. If you are positive you will not enroll at one or more of the colleges that accepted you, please notify these colleges that you have selected another college. If you know which college you will attend, send your tuition deposit and follow all other instructions.
May
Take AP exams, if appropriate, and request that your AP scores are sent to the college you are attending.
June
Notify the college of any private scholarships or grants you will be receiving.
Know when the payment for tuition, room, and board, meal plans, etc. is due. If necessary, ask the financial aid office about a possible payment plan that will allow for you to pay in installments.
Update your Naviance Student status. We need to know which college you are attending so we can send final transcripts!
Complete your Senior Exit Survey! (You will NOT receive tickets for graduation if you do not complete the senior survey!)
