This workshop is open to anyone who struggles with reading or writing related tasks, whether or not you have an ADHD diagnosis.
Do you find reading challenging or struggle to get started with writing? You're not alone. This workshop is designed to explore common difficulties faced by ADHDers when it comes to reading and writing and provide practical strategies to overcome them.
Aims:
To share useful tips and techniques for managing reading challenges and initiating writing tasks.
To create a supportive space where students can exchange personal strategies and experiences.
Objectives:
Discuss the various reasons behind reading and writing difficulties in ADHDers.
Learn practical approaches to make reading more accessible and writing less daunting.
Foster a collaborative environment where participants can share what has worked for them.
Join us for this interactive session and discover tools to make reading and writing a bit easier!
Here is a brief running order for the session. Please note that this schedule is intended as a guide, and there may be some flexibility with the timings on the day:
Introduction (10 minutes)
We’ll kick off the session with a warm welcome and a brief overview of what we’ll be covering today. You’ll learn about the session’s goals and the importance of creating a supportive environment.
Activity 1: Guided Discussion (45 minutes)
Case Study Presentation (15 minutes):
You’ll receive a case study that highlights an individual’s struggles with reading and writing. We’ll read through it together to set the context.
Guided Discussion (30 minutes):
We’ll engage in an open discussion about the case study. You’ll have the opportunity to share your thoughts on the challenges presented, relate them to your own experiences, and brainstorm strategies that could help the individual in the case study.
Lunch and Information Fair (1 hour)
Take a break to enjoy lunch and explore the information fair, where you can gather resources and learn more about support services and tools related to ADHD and writing.
Activity 2: Practical Strategies (45 minutes)
Introduction to Practical Activity (5 minutes):
We’ll introduce an exciting hands-on activity focused on strategies to improve reading and writing.
Group Challenges (20 minutes):
You’ll be divided into small groups and presented with a series of challenges based on the case study discussed earlier. Each group will:
Identify specific issues from the case study that require creative solutions.
Create tools, resources, or strategies to address these challenges, such as graphic organizers, motivational techniques, or visual aids.
Prepare to share your creations and strategies with the rest of the group.
Group Presentations (10 minutes)
Each group will present their strategy and explain how it can support individuals facing similar challenges. This will be an excellent opportunity for everyone to learn from one another!
Wrap-Up (5 minutes)
We’ll summarize the key takeaways from our discussions and activities. You’ll be encouraged to think about one new strategy you can apply to your reading or writing practice.

Thank you for participating! We’ll provide you with additional resources and handouts to help you continue exploring these strategies beyond the workshop.
