What am I good at?

A good question! I’ve been involved in a lot of research with people with learning disabilities over the years, and I think that experience is quite useful in getting through the ups and downs of a research project. I think I’m quite good at working as part of a group, and helping people to do their best work to get the job done. Outside of work, I’ve been part of a choir where I live in Kendal for nearly 15 years, and I love singing as part of a group.

How am I helping with the project?

I’m bringing my experience of research with people with learning disabilities, particularly when it comes to how people with learning disabilities are supported by social care services. I’ll be advising on the practicalities of the project as it gets going, and helping to think about what the project finds out and how to share it.

What is important to me?

I’m still learning how to get better at this, but supporting people with learning disabilities to do the research that is important to people (rather than necessarily what I might think is important) is becoming more important to me as the years go by. It’s also really important to me to help colleagues develop to do brilliant research with people with learning disabilities now and in the future.
