Understanding Digital Poverty in South Yorkshire
Funder: Research England, Higher Education Innovation Fund
The benefits of increased digitization and connectivity are undoubtedly enjoyed by many of us. However, for many others digital poverty is having a direct, negative impact on day-to-day lives. Inequalities, such as low income and poor network infrastructure, create barriers to connectivity and can exacerbate digital poverty.
In response to these challenges, this project sets out to map regional inequalities in digital access and to identify digitally excluded social groups. By increasing understanding of the various barriers to digital inclusion across the South Yorkshire region, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority will be better equipped to address these needs.
