Mind the Gap: Tackling Digital Exclusion
Funder: Economic and Social Research Council
The digital exclusion game is an innovative tool for learning about various barriers and inequalities that impact access to essential digital services. The game was developed using research by BIDS team members, Dr Sharon Wagg, Dr Sara Vannini and Dr Laura Sbaffi, with support from the University of Sheffield's Centre for Care.
The game aims to educate policymakers, third sector organisations, and the public about digital exclusion through a serious game. The game was launched at a Festival of Social Science event in November 2024 with an interactive panel discussion, for which Sharon was one of the panellists. The game was also made available to the public for three days and Sharon has since used the game as part of her teaching. In addition, Sharon is doing further research on the use of serious games as part of her PG Cert. More information about the game is available on the Centre for Care's website.
