In 2023, Dr Sharon Wagg and Dr Sara Vannini's British Academy policy insight case study explored digital inclusion network building as a mechanism for reducing digital poverty, focusing on a network in rural Derbyshire. This was a qualitative study based on interviews, document analysis and observations of digital inclusion activities that captured the experiences of the organisations and individuals within the network, and the steps used to build a digital inclusion network aimed at reducing regional digital poverty. The culmination of the findings led to the creation of a 12-Principle Framework for developing a local digital inclusion network (composed of enabling and nurturing features) that can be adapted and applied by organisations in various local and hyperlocal contexts, together with a list recommendations for effective digital inclusion provision and network development.
Findings of this research have been included in the British Academy's Developing Digital Inclusion Networks and Tackling Digital Inequalities policy brief.
