After a couple of years of defeat and insurmountable opponents, the senior class has reclaimed their glory at this year’s Battle of the Classes.
Del Rio High School had their annual battle of the classes on April 25, 2025. Battle of the Classes is a competition against all grades–freshman, sophomores, juniors, and senior–to determine which class will secure the Del Rio High School spirit stick. This spirit stick is the defining prize of the Battle. Only the class that is the loudest, most organized, and wins most competitions can safeguard it.
However, this annual staple is more than just a competition, it also serves as an opportunity for everyone to gather together and share a good time. Not only for students, but staff too.
Towards the middle of the pep-rally, some of the Del Rio High School teachers gathered and put on a fabulous dance show for the students.
“Every year we have fun doing the dance. We only practice for a week. I think we did awesome,” Science teacher Alejandra Torres says.
It was a dance put together beautifully and danced wonderfully. Definitely a student's favorite.
In addition to the dance, the Battle of the Classes also pitted class against class through a series of games.. Students participated in four competitions, each of which required students to work as a team to win. Some of these games included dragging people on a blanket or popping balloons by sitting down on them. As well, themes hand-picked by each class were visible from the stands: students could be seen sporting the themes camouflage, christmas, sleepover, and USA.
Battle of the Classes is organized by the Student Council in collaboration with each class, and it takes a lot of time and planning to make sure it is successful.
“I loved the battle of the classes, I liked the process of setting up, dressing up, and showing out for the class. I like the process of the class being able to choose,” Junior class president Joel Mejia said.
It is important that all students approach the event positively and work cooperatively with their classes.
“[Sometimes] when the people don't get the option they voted for, they end up not showing up to the Battle of the Classes at all, which lowers the chances of winning and ends up hurting morale of the people who did show up,” Mejia said.
Battle of the Classes is a Del Rio High School tradition, so it's important to show up to events like these: the campus needs your support and your spirit.
