On November 16th, H-E-B held its annual “Feast of Sharing” here in Del Rio at the Civic Center. Events and serving started at 10:30 a.m. with many events such as speeches from a few individuals, as well as activities present for children attending to partake in.
The feast is held every year and receives an abundance of help from sponsors and even students from Del Rio High School. Students are able to contact sponsors of the event to sign up to volunteer. With student help, sponsors can focus on coordinating the event, serving food, and accepting donated items for the event.
Del Rio’s Feast of Sharing first started in 1989 in Laredo and Corpus Christi, Texas, and has carried on throughout the years. The event has spread throughout not just Texas, but also Mexico as well. This is a free holiday dinner open to the public that is a part of H-E-B’s “Hunger Relief Program.”Originally, the program was established as a way of giving back to the community. By doing so, the event serves as a means to prevent and combat hunger within the Texas community and beyond..
Aside from this, the event is also an opportunity for communities and families together to celebrate the holidays with one another through food, music, and fun. Programs such as this are designed to give back to the community and loyal customers of H-E-B, which seeks to amplify the happiness that comes with the holiday
season.
