Extracurriculars are something not always viewed as important to some highschool students, however, they can actually be very beneficial in multiple ways not only during school, especially towards students’ lives after graduation.
Many extracurriculars are coordinated in a group of people or teams. Being with people who may share similar interests, ideas, and philosophies as you can help you connect to new people and improve your social skills, teamwork, and communication. This in turn can benefit you later in life such as in a job environment where collaboration and communication skills may be required.
Not only do extracurricular activities give you life skills, but they also help you on college applications. Documenting all the extracurriculars that you participated in throughout high school in your resume and personal statements can help improve your image, make your application more appealing to admission officers, and increase your chances of being accepted into a university.
Extracurriculars and clubs are also available to you in some colleges, so you can continue participating in a similar club or extracurricular that you were a part of in high school or branch out and try something new.
So, try out or apply to an extracurricular or club, even if you are unsure whether you will like it, it is better to try it out and see than to regret never doing it. Take a chance to connect with new people and things through these activities and you may find something new that you are passionate about through clubs and extracurriculars. It will open up new avenues to connect with others and the world around you, and it might just lead you to the opportunities you’ve always dreamed of.
