Just recently, the 2024-2025 Class Officer elections concluded at Del Rio High School (DRHS). Results were announced on Friday, Sept. 6 during the pep rally. Each class's announced officers have since begun meetings with their first being conducted last Wednesday.
The coordinators of the Class Officer elections, Mrs. Torres, Mrs. Ruiz, and Mrs. Padilla, confirmed that around 600 students voted this year out of the over 2,000 that are currently enrolled at DRHS. In total, about 30% percent of the entire campus population participated in electing this year’s new officers.
Class of 2026 president, Joel Mejia, provided some more insight on what exactly it means to be a class officer and what to expect of the governing body. Responding to questions on what is currently happening within the class officers' meetings and other official matters, he disclosed, “Currently, we [officers] are in the process of working on class shirts and talking a little about homecoming.”
As highlighted by Mejia, this year, class officers' most apparent responsibilities are coordinating and assisting at a variety of campus events such as the Homecoming dance and game. As well, you can find the class officers showcasing their school spirit and energizing the students around them at the weekly pep-rallies.
Mejia also shared his personal plans and wishes for DRHS as a newly elected president since it is his first time being elected to this position. “I want to try my best to make sure I represent the Class of 2026 to my best ability in school, at pep rallies, and more,” Mejia said. “I want to create an environment that students can feel comfortable in, and carry out my duties to the fullest extent for those who elected and trusted me with this position.”
